We have been decorating weddings for nearly 18 years now, and right back at the beginning, favours were an essential part of the table décor. Traditional favours of sugared almonds in an organza bag, matching your colour scheme were all the rage. As the years went by, we have seen some changes to the tradition, with couples putting their own stamp on the idea. From scratch cards to key rings, wildflowers to chocolates.
This little gift for your guests can add to the look of your table décor, with pretty packaging, in line with your wedding theme. And as much as I am all about the little details! If you were to ask me my opinion on favours – it’s that on so many occasions on those early morning pick-ups before the clean-up has been done. We have seen these pretty boxes, sweets & treats strewn across the floor. It’s a sad sight to see, and such a waste of time, money & effort.
In recent years, we have seen more & more donations to charity in lieu of favours. This is a wonderful idea, especially if you have a charity close to your heart.
However, the be all and end all is, that favours are not an essential part of the day. And will definitely not be noticed if they are not there. You are treating your guests to so much already on the day, from the drinks reception, to the beautiful meal and a whole night of music. I believe you would be better off investing the funds in a form of entertainment or a way of capturing memories. An audio guestbook, photo booth or video booth will provide you with long-lasting memories of the fun had on your wedding day – which is priceless!
